The building
An iconic 1930’s building in the heart of Derby City Centre. Originally fitted with a series of astonishing bronze shopfronts around most of its perimeter, in the intervening decades it has suffered from inappropriate modern alterations and replacements.
The Brief
Under the Derby Partnership Scheme in Conservation Areas (PSiCA), the property was to be reinstated to its historic grandeur, including any required repairs and reinstatements.
The design
All repairs and reinstatements were designed in accordance with the existing historic fabric, including what was still in place of the original shopfronts. What resulted is a series of bronze frontages and large timber doors that act as a landmark in the successful PSiCA.
